Just south of Pennington County, Red Lake County (pop. 4,089), is the third smallest county (by population) in Minnesota.
It’s one of the few counties in the state that does not have a lake, but it does have the Red Lake River. (Upper Red Lake and Lower Red Lake are in Beltrami County, not Red Lake County.)
Red Lake County is the only Minnesota county that has no traffic lights.
The county seat, Red Lake Falls, has a population of 1,427. The red brick courthouse was built in 1911.
The second largest city in the county is Oklee, pop. 435. It was named for a Mr. O.K. Lee.
